Leaving It In ’16

A few weeks ago, I was in the emergency room for a health scare that turned out to be just that…a scare. Monday night I was back in the emergency room again, this time with my husband and his siblings, taking their mother. As I said in a previous blog, sitting in the emergency room makes you think about some things.

Much has been written on the seemingly non-stop death march of famous people this year. And we know that people die daily whose footprint may be small but whose loss is no less devastating to those who love them. We try to process death(and prevent our own) by getting (or when it comes to the famous, guessing) as much information as possible about HOW they died. I’ve seen Facebook  threads of people using a celebrity’s supposed cause of death as a cautionary tale for lifestyle choices they say we SHOULD be making and getting in arguments with people who push back.

FIGHTING OVER PEOPLE THEY DON’T EVEN KNOW!

This is not THAT. Yes, we can and have learned from people’s illnesses and deaths. Not only learned, but lived longer and better lives. So get health checks, make needed changes specific to YOUR health profile. Eat well. Move more. ENJOY LIFE!

THIS is about that Enjoy Life part. It’s about looking at how people lived, not how they died. And if you think that’s a frivolous focus, go sit in an emergency room one evening. We have the choice to free ourselves from whatever…whoever…is binding us, constricting us, slowly but surely KILLING US.

DECIDE NOW. ACT NOW. GET SUPPORT NOW.

This is what I’m choosing to let die in 2016:

Worry(Hellooooooo!)
Fear(that doesn’t serve me…there must be a lion, tiger, or bear!)
Clutter(It just doesn’t work for me, it may for you)
Practicality(that masks settling: I hate the damn rug and it’s going!)
Hiding(Siggghhhhh)

What will you bury in 2016? Refuse to carry into 2017? IT’S TIME. We don’t know how many more days we’ll have, but we CAN choose how to make the most of the ones we get.

Sadly, my mother-in-law won’t see 2017. She did, however, live a long, full life knowing she was loved. I hope that for ALL of us in whatever manifestation we desire.

Make 2017 be more than happy, make it be

On Purpose…YOUR Purpose!

You In Danger Girl!

The title is one of my all-time fave movie lines and if you haven’t seen Ghost, correct that egregiousness ASAP! It came to mind because a few days ago I thought I was having a stroke. This was based on experience not created drama. Several years ago I had a transient ischemic attack(TIA) and ended up in the hospital, thankfully avoiding a major stroke.

On this particular morning, I experienced a familiar symptom, went to the emergency room and found out that this time was a false alarm.

And while the alarm was false for stroke, it served as a warning to slow my roll, reflect and assess.

2016 has been an amazing year! I began it seeking business clarity which led me on a path of self-discovery that took me from a Savannah mansion to
a Santa Fe transformation, a NYC stage, a trans-atlantic cruise on the incomparable Queen Mary 2, Downton Abbey filming locations, High Tea at the London Ritz, and a Caribbean cruise ship! I even went back to Savannah and had a conversation with a horse.

Did I get clear? Yassssssss! I worked with a Kick-Ass coach(Susan Hyatt), who taught me how to stop treating coaching like a hobby and connected me to more Kick-A women. I’ve been having the time of my life and yet…

When you know what you know, act like you know it. As FAB as this year has been…as much as I’ve learned, experienced and accomplished…I went a little overboard, exhausting myself while also avoiding my original motivation: relaunching myself as a coach for hire.

One of my favorite coaching mantras is “Nothing is wasted. It’s ALL information.” It’s my bootleg version of Maya Angelou’s question: “What has this come to teach you?”
Being on a hospital gurney can allow for some good reassessment:

1. Fear wears many masks:distraction, avoidance, busyness…even fun.
2. Done is better than perfect. Pull the trigger and do the damn thing!
3. Show up for myself and my goals powerfully and consistently.
4. Maintain the personal health/energy bandwidth to work my plan and handle the unexpected.
5. Own my value. No more free coaching.

My failure to launch was about fear (what if I fail?). Distraction is how we fool ourselves(I’ll launch after taking just one more course, my website’s not perfect…). YADA YADA YADA. Enough of that shiggedy! I’m making my list and checking it twice for any gaps or distractions that keep my eyes off the prize: SLAYING MY GOALS in 2017! And here we go!
