“Some years have questions. Some years have answers. ~ Zora Neale Hurston
Cabbie: “Where to?”
Bobby(in voice of exhaustion and defeat): “I just want to turn the corner.”
That’s a scene from the wild and wooly tv show, The Practice. The scrappy, beleaguered (and very cute!) protagonist, Atty. Bobby Donnell ran an always-on-the-ledge Boston law firm. In this moment, he’d walked away from a verbal altercation with an a-hole client, whom you knew he was only dealing with because this client’s money would help the firm. “I just want to turn the corner.” was his plea to the universe for the battle to become easier and without compromise.
Rona has us all in this space, doesn’t she? Globally and personally. Either turning a corner or wanting to turn one. Maybe you’re like journalist Chris Cuomo who seemingly has come to a huge life-change epiphany in the midst of battling the virus, “I don’t like what I do professionally,” he said. “I don’t think it’s worth my time.” (see full interview here)
Or like my girlfriend, who’s in strong “Corona-coping” (love this!) mode to deal with a job that’s even more stressful now. She’s starting each day with an online workout, sticking to work-stop boundaries and engaging in other self-care actions that make her in ‘managing my life’ mode instead of feeling dragged by it.
Or like me. I hit a Rona-rut (friends losing people to the virus/reconsidering my business path) and mindset coach that I am, I know that reframing my thoughts and messaging to focus on what Is and what I can is The Path to calm…even joy in the midst of personal and/or global crisis. Plus cooking and jigsaw puzzles!
In the best and the worst of circumstances, there is one constant: CHOICE. We ALWAYS have choice. This year is full of questions. Choose the answers that serve your Braver, your Bolder, your Better. Those choices set you up for Best Life living.
