I retired from my company two years before my official retirement date because everything in my being was telling me that chapter had closed, regardless of the corporation’s prescribed (and arbitrary) timeline.
Doing this resulted in my not getting retiree health (marrying a good government man took care of that LOL) and not becoming a member of the retiree group called Trailblazers. It’s a good group and one I don’t miss because,
I. Blaze. My. Own. Trails.
How?
I know who I am.
I know what I want. Self-knowledge clearly connects me with what I want.
I go get what I want.
I do the foundational work to keep it. Free your mind and your ass will follow.
Rinse. Repeat. Have fun. Trail blazed.
I don’t wait on anyone to throw me a party. (My 60th celebration is going to be one for the history books! Me + plus ten FAB girlfriends in Paris, the Dordogne Valley, and Marrakesh searching for Josephine Baker!!)
I don’t wait on anyone to go on a trip with me.
A rule is subject to be broken if it makes no sense to me.
I’m inspired by other trailblazers, but I stay focused on MY path.
When the going gets too tough, confusing or krazy, I get/hire help: coaching, therapy, medical.
I value me. I invest in me.
All of these ‘I’s’ open space for me to give my best to YOU.
So, how do you blaze a trail? By being and doing YOU.

One of my biggest motivations for coaching woman on how to let their shxt go and thrive in freedom is having had a mini-stroke at age 45. I had no warning triggers, other than being stressed as hell during that time in my life. Here are some facts:
“Despite increases in awareness over the past decades, only about half (56%) of women recognize that heart disease is their number 1 killer:
* Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, killing 299,578 women in 2017—or about 1 in every 5 female deaths.”
* Heart disease is the leading cause of death for African American and White women in the United States. For Hispanic and Asian or Pacific Islander women, heart disease is second only to cancer as a cause of death.” (World Health Organization)
My neurologist told me that the only reason I had a stroke instead of a heart attack is because the clot bypassed my heart and went to my brain.
I heeded the warning from the universe and over the next several years, I shed what I knew was no longer healthy for me to keep:
a marriage a career other people’s opinions fear of making a mistake
THIS IS NOT A DRESS REHEARSAL.
Life is arbitrary and someday is TODAY.
What do you want to do?
Stop waiting for a sign.
The craving for better is your sign!

I’m an SDJ (self-development junkie). Not because I’m broken (although there have been times when I was!), but because I love getting better. I stand with Michelle Obama in believing we are Becoming until we die. And better at this stage of life is about shedding old paradigms, rules (who said??!), and resented obligations.
And better isn’t always easy. There’s no secret or magic bullet for it.
It’s about Getting Aware and staying Open.
It’s about Connection.
Connecting to your inner truth and guiding light.
Connecting to what you want more than you’re afraid of it.
Connecting to your Ikigai. Say what???
This graphic is the visual for the Japanese concept of Ikigai.
“The term ikigai is composed of two Japanese words: iki referring to life, and kai, which roughly means “the realisation of what one expects and hopes for.” Unpacking the word and its associated symbol a bit further, ikigai is seen as the convergence of four primary elements:
* What you love (your passion)
* What the world needs (your mission)
* What you are good at (your vocation)
* What you can get paid for (your profession)
The word ikigai, that space in the middle of these four elements, is seen as the source of value or what make one’s life truly worthwhile. In Okinawa, Japan, ikigai is thought of as “a reason to get up in the morning.” (From the article, Finding Your Reason For Being, http://upliftconnect.com/ikigai-finding-your-reason-for-being/)

The woman I wrote about who was hesitating over choosing the funky red glasses because she might be judged. Who then went on to say that she knew it was time to break out of the box she’d created for herself over the years. That she used to be much more adventurous and she wanted to get back to that person and travel.
We shared a few minutes at an eyewear trunk show. I hope she went back and bought those glasses. I hope she’s booking those trips.

Maybe. Maybe not. What it really is…is a decision.
Four months ago, the women in my Sistermind made a decision to stop lying to themselves about why this or that wasn’t happening and to instead trust themselves to do something about it. Now, they’ve made huge shifts that are translating into tangible action.
This week, I was told that a woman who attended the Self-Love Explosion Tour (the FAB speaking event my partners and I run) was moved and inspired to make a major life move that had been nudging her. She made a decision and took the leap after hearing our messages.
My talk was on Taking The Trip: the mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, and/or experiential journeys we need to take to live the lives we say we want to live. The aforementioned women are on their respective journeys and Life Is Good! The self-knowledge they’ve gained is priceless and has flipped their externally focused script re what they can or cannot do. They love and own their freedom to be whoever they choose to be. They made a decision. So, I ask again:
What do you want?
Why don’t you have it?
Make a decision.
Take the trip.
